1.1 What is The Satellite Interrogator < SATINIT > ?
SATinit is designed to help you locate information on objects launched
into Space. They may either have Decayed from orbit or still be in
orbit. A complete database is maintained and updated in March of each
year.
SATinit, will allow the user to create full reports on an object(s)
containing useful information for the satellite enthusiast.
The following list represents items which may be searched, browsed and
reports generated.
a. Catalog Number
b. International Designator
c. Launch Site
d. Launch Date
e. Perigee
f. Period
h. Country of Origin
i. Inclination
j. Satellite Name
k. Apogee
l. Decay
1.2 Features:
a. Full Database Reports #
b. Selective Searches
c. Criteria Matching and Searching
d. Database Browsing
e. Labels
f. Editing of each field
g. Record Deletion
*: Future editions will include the ability to select current Keplerian
element groups from standard .TLE files for a give satellite.
#: The BBS version will not allow reports to be generated, appended or
printed to a printer or file. Users of the BBS version must be
Doorway Aware.
1.3 System Hardware and Software Requirements
* An IBM PC, XT, AT or 100% compatible with hard disk.
* Microsoft MS-DOS or IBM PC-DOS version 3.00 or later. Version
3.30 or later is preferred.
SATinit was successfully tested with DOS 3.2, 3.3, 4.0 and 5.0,
DR DOS 5.0 and 6.0 ,Windows 3.0 and 3.1, QEMM 5 and 6.0,
Novell NetWare, Novell Lite, LANtastic on systems equipped with
NEC V20, V30, V40, Intel 8086, 8088, 80186, 80286, 80386 and i486
CPUs.
* At least "FILES=30" in your CONFIG.SYS.
SATinit can optionally use more than 30 file handles, which
requires a higher FILES value.
A disk cache (especially one that can buffer disk writes, such
as Norton Cache or HyperDisk) can improve performance, but of
course it is not required. If you are not using a disk cache,
make sure that CONFIG.SYS contains "BUFFERS=30" (or higher) to
improve performance and consider enabling SATinit's internal disk
buffer for writing to the Hudson message base in the BBS version.
* At least 450 KB of RAM available.
The amount of RAM needed by SATinit depends on the configur-
ation of your system. If you operate a BBS please refer to
your BBS documentation concerning swapping the BBS to XMS, EMS
or disk.
1.4 License and Disclaimer
"SATinit" refers to all executables and documentation as distributed in
the compressed file in which the package was released.
* SATinit is copyrighted material by UBD. It may only be used
in agreement with the conditions set out in this license
agreement.
* This version of SATinit is released as shareware.
- The following applies to all users who can afford to
register SATinit: you may use the unregistered version of
SATinit for an evaluation period of one month. After this
period you MUST either register SATinit or stop using it.
- Registration is REQUIRED for commercial usage (in a
commercial environment, such as business, governmental
organization, association, school, foundation, or any other
form of juridical person, or any system where SATinit is
directly or indirectly used to make profit).
- Unregistered evaluation versions of SATinit may be distributed
freely provided no money or any other compensation is asked
or accepted without prior written permission from the
author. Registered versions may only be distributed to
registered users.
* Although care has been taken to write and test a program that
does what this document states, SATinit is provided as is,
without warranty or guarantee of any kind, either expressed or
implied, as to the fitness for a particular purpose or quality
or performance of this program, except that SATinit will occupy
disk space.
* In no event shall UBD be liable to you or anyone else for any
damages or cost, including, but not limited to, any lost profits,
lost savings or lost income which may result from the use or
inability to use SATinit.
* In no way is UBD obligated to you or anyone else to provide
future versions of, or support for SATinit.
* UBD reserves the right not to release future share ware
versions of SATinit, but switch to a commercial "buy
before you try" marketing concept instead.
* Your use of SATinit constitutes your agreement to this license
and disclaimer and your release of the author from any form of
liability or litigation.
2.0 Operation
Operation is very simple and straight forward, along with generous
help menus guiding the user through each step as either an online or
a stand alone program. SatInit is a pleasure to use.
3.0 Credits
Many thanks to all the registered users and beta testers for their
contributions.
4.0 Installation
A. Create a subdirectory named SATINIT. Unzip the contents of
SATINITA.ZIP into the subdirectory. If you have received a
registration key, copy the key into the subdirectory and copy
it to
B. Before you run SATINIT for the first time, you MUST copy the
file LOCAL.CFG to SATSET.CFG. Next, run SEUP.BAT. Thereafter,
you can execute SATLOCAL.BAT for local operations. You MUST run
SATBBS.BAT before calling the program from your BBS.
C. SAT_COND.DBF
This database is created and/or modified anytime (L)ocate
in the edit screen or Use a Condition in the report module
is selected. Due to the complex nature of the search, the
batch file SATLOCAL.BAT copies your SAT_COND.DBF to SAT_LOC.DBF
in order to preserve the contents. The BBS version of SATINIT,
called by SATBBS.BAT creates a SAT_COND.DBF that is NOT saved at
program termination. SAT_COND.DBF is not saved in the BBS
version to insure that any online user errors in search logic
are not maintained in the master database.
D. The major differences between the LOCAL and BBS configurations
are as Follows:
LOCAL BBS
APPEND-Records can be appended APPEND-Users can NOT append
BROWSE-Records may be edited BROWSE-Users can NOT edit
REPORT-Either Screen or Print REPORT-Screen Only
CONDITONS DATA BASE (Used by Locate and Report Conditions)
Entries are saved on SAT_COND.DBF NO SAT_COND.DBF saved
E. BBS Operations
You may run SATINIT on your BBS, AFTER running SATBBS.BAT.
SATINIT requires that your users use a DOORWAY compatible
terminal program to make use of cursor keys and other control
and ANSI functions.
Please consult your BBS and/or DOORWAY documentation for the
proper method of calling SATINIT. The sample below operates
correctly with Remote Access 2.01, using a TYPE 7 Menu.

This is the source of the payload. Usually, the source of the payload is
the same as the source of the launch, but not always. For instance, the US
launches payloads for many other countries and organizations (e.g., NATO or
ESA).
